There’s a lot of buzz about AI taking over my job and I’m not going to lie it is a future concern for me.

The business world and technology change at a rapid pace these days, and it’s hard to imagine that there are people on the earth who don’t have a smartphone (shout out to my Grandma Frankie for holding strong on this one!)

Here’s why I’m not too stressed about it yet:

I once had a phenomenal client in the excavation industry. I was often on-site capturing photos and videos. I learned about various employees and how working for this company enriched their lives.

People who worked there praised my work and were happy to see me when l came through the door. People in the community who knew I was creating their content told me they followed that account because I had made excavating interesting.

And then a new manager was hired who made the decision that ChatGPT would be cheaper, and they would facilitate the social media posting from now on.

There is a very distinct difference between the last post I created for them and when they started using AI created images and captions.

A large part of my job is creating comfort for potential clients. There are word choices that are soothing to the nervous system, and ways to tell stories that make people feel a sense of belonging and inclusion.

Not only that, but if you’ve ever asked Chat GPT to create something humorous for you, you might find it’s just not that funny.

Human creativity and nuance are still necessary because hiring and purchases happen through emotional connection. AI can generate infinite lists of features and benefits. What our clients really want to know is that we will provide a solution, and they will feel supported throughout the implementation of that purchase.

I believe AI assistance in generating images that would simply be too difficult or time consuming is a huge benefit. The recent Barbie and action figure trend has been super fun, and not something I have the skills to pull off on my own. But ChatGPT for sure needed some finessing with those prompts because it turned one of my clients into a jowled old lady instead of a beautiful Barbie. Not exactly the image we were going for.

We’re on the frontier of an exciting partnership with artificial intelligence, and I believe there are plenty of amazing benefits to gain, but we’re definitely not at the point of abating human input yet.
